Informatics Analyst / Data Miner - Cigna (Bloomfield, CT)


SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Informatics Analyst / Data Miner will be a key member of the Consumerism Informatics group. This group is responsible for delivering breakthrough consumer insights through analytics and quantifying important consumerism metrics and indices. The team acts as internal consultants who provide research, analysis, and individually-derived insights to CIGNA's product and marketing teams and other key stakeholders. This team is also responsible for connecting analytic insight to operational activities to maximize consumer loyalty and engagement. Key colleagues include leaders in clinical informatics, employer consulting, strategy and product development, marketing and IT. Research and actionable information stemming from the Consumerism Informatics team is highly valued as a critical success factor for the organization and has a direct and immediate impact on the success of the business.

The Informatics Analyst / Data Miner will take a hands-on approach to analyzing business problems, recommending and developing new metrics and methodologies, designing and executing analytic research and recommending actions to clients and stakeholders. Statistical analysis, predictive modeling, data mining and business optimization are among the functions the analyst will perform. In addition to delivering specific research requests and project initiatives, he/she will be charged with proactively uncovering opportunities for further business-development and product innovation and with presenting & rationalizing his/her findings to business partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree and 5-7 years experience developing and using advanced analytics (statistics/ data mining) within consumer-oriented organizations.

  • Masters Degree required, Ph.D. preferred. Academic background in Applied Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science with experience in the healthcare business and consumer-oriented organizations would be ideal.
  • Outstanding knowledge and experience in statistical analysis and applicable analytic tools, such as SAS, is necessary. Expertise in data mining, predictive modeling techniques and corresponding tools, would be a big plus.
  • Experience in working with large-scale complex databases, particularly in a healthcare business, would be considered highly.
  • Prior experience in uncovering consumer behaviors and motivations that result in breakthrough business insights, would be ideal. This includes use of consumer segmentation tools and market research databases to analyze and predict consumer behaviors, preferences and choices.
  • Solid track record of designing, executing, interpreting and delivering insightful and actionable research, is necessary.
  • Candidate should possess excellent organizational skills to facilitate the coordination and completion of multiple and varied projects, as well as written and oral communication skills that allow clear and concise presentation of conclusions and recommendations to a variety of audiences.
  • Ideal candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to be effective in a large, complex and highly matrixed organization.
  • Candidate should be able to provide technical and functional requirements design assistance and work with IT to scale prototypes and put models into production.

Statistical Software Engineer

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

Job Description

Foundation Information Technology (IT) is responsible for evolving and executing the foundation's strategy for information technology systems in accordance with the organization’s business requirements. This includes planning, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating cost-efficient enterprise systems that support both distributed and centralized grant management and business operations. IT also supports foundation programs directly, consulting on the execution of grants that include IT components.

The technical architect brings a blend of competencies in the infrastructure and application domains. Qualified candidates will enable the successful implementation of enterprise architecture by identifying solution options and trade-offs and assisting in design and implementation efforts. The technical architect oversees application integration, reviews and implements third-party solutions and tools, and is responsible for defining technical standards and reviews.

• Applies technical and process background to define and document release management and configuration management processes and procedures
• Drives and documents technology-related decisions required to support general infrastructure requirements (e.g., e-mail, file sharing, load balancing, etc.)
• Work with application teams to ensure coding standards and adherence to architecture principles
• Work with the information management team and data architect to implement the foundation’s information management strategy
• Establish measures and techniques to achieve design quality
• Review, recommend, and influences selection of third-party software solutions
• Provide thought leadership to influence strategy, architecture direction, and technology decisions
• Identifies problem areas and opportunities and makes recommendations

Requirements

• Bachelors degree in computer science,  information systems, or equivalent work and education experience
• Excellent technical, organizational, and overall management skills
• Ability to articulate and adhere to a vision
• Experience in development, configuration management, infrastructure architecture, systems integration, solution deployment, and operations
• Experience with data center management and capacity planning
• Experience using Active Directory in custom developed solutions and commercial package deployments
• Knowledge of the architectural implications associated with the .NET platform
• Background in SharePoint, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, WinFx technologies (WCF, WF) solutions
• Background in Microsoft SQL Server Data Warehousing and Data Management
• Well developed written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well in a collaborative team environment.
• Four-year college degree in computer science,  information systems, or equivalent work and education experience

THE POSITION

The Statistical Analyst will fill a unique role that combines work on several client project teams with responsibility for internal initiatives that extend the firm’s core of intellectual capital. The Statistical
Analyst will be able to rapidly gain exposure to a wide variety of clients and industries and support the work of senior Statisticians and Econometricians at the firm. The successful candidate will have an excellent academic profile, strong analytical skills, and a desire to make an impact.

Core Responsibilities

  • Organize and execute statistical/econometric analyses
    • Work with project team to develop working hypothesis
    • Conduct primary and secondary research
    • Independently structure and execute analysis
    • Synthesize findings and identify key insights from analysis and data
  • Communicate findings to the consulting team and the client verbally and in writing
    • Effectively participate in team and client discussions
    • Create portions of overall documents outlining growth strategy recommendations

    • Complete deliverables on time
    • Take initiative to follow new paths to further the client answer
    • Proactively take on new assignments and responsibilities
    • Guide and assist other Business Analysts as needed
  • Develop a solid understanding of the firm’s intellectual capital and proprietary methodologies

    • Support additional programs and special projects as determined by the firm’s leadership team
    • Participate in formal and informal training programs and firm-wide initiatives

THE INDIVIDUAL

  • Bachelor’s degree from a top-tier institution; economics or mathematics major strongly preferred
  • Prior work/internship experience required
  • Strong analytical skills; including course experience with econometric analysis and statistical testing and a minor in mathematics (or equivalent); some applied econometric experience is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook required
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
