Director of Insurance Predictive Actuarial Analytics - Dallas, Texas

Recognized and growing Property and Casualty Insurance carrier is seeking a Director for the Predictive Actuarial Analytics Group in Dallas. The successful candidate will manage and develop a team of analysts and database information specialists and direct the development and analysis of commercial insurance statistical predictive models of demand and loss cost in a program environment.

Duties and functions:

  • Implement modeling outcomes into their strategic decision making, underwriting and marketing processes.
  • Provide direction to the actuarial rate making process and develop simulation models to help quantify risk uncertainty.
  • Extend the development of quantitative tools and techniques to evaluate risks, profitability and business improvements.
  • Develop and implement marketing and underwriting risk data to enhance company models.
  • Work with external and internal IT groups to ensure adequate development of underlying data warehouses and IT systems.

Minimum requirements:
  • Master's degree in Information Management.
  • 4 years in leading analytical and modeling project teams and in implementing knowledge based target marketing efforts using SQL Server and statistical techniques to include 1 year in developing information & analytical solutions for commercial program business.
  • Willing to travel 20% throughout the U.S.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills

Data Mining Developer

Click Forensics is an exciting Austin startup well funded by Austin Ventures & Sierra Ventures. We create solutions used by online advertisers, publishers and ad networks to detect click fraud in their online pay per click campaigns. Our products use sophisticated heuristics to find bots and people who are clicking on adds to commit fraud. We provide enormous value to our customers by allowing them to manage their traffic quality - removing fraud and other low quality traffic that negatively impacts their ad spend and their revenues.

The position requires experience in data mining, statistical analysis, as well as the development of rule based systems. You will be analyzing data sets using pattern recognition techniques, machine learning and statistical techniques to find patterns of behavior indicative of fraud. You will be designing rules sets to detect fraud and other invalid types of behavior. You will be working with very senior engineers in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Researching new techniques to use to detect click fraud
  • Product development including the implementation of techniques

Required Skills/Attributes:
  • Experience in developing a classifier using machine learning techniques
  • Experience in feature extraction and feature selection
  • Experience in predictive modeling with naïve Bayes, Logistics Regression or Support Vector Machines
  • Strong background in statistics
  • Strong Experience with SQL programming

Desired Skills/Attributes:
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis packages such as MS SQL Data Mining, SAS or Clementine
  • Familiarity with online advertising
  • Familiarity with web analytics products

The Position

Title: SAS Programmer (US)
Location: Norcross, GA – Corporate Headquarters
Reports to: John Jelinek, Chief Risk Officer

In this newly created role, the SAS Programmer will play a key role in developing our analytical capabilities in Risk and Fraud for our commercial fuel card portfolio. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Designing and devloping standard software and data structures
  • Developing and executing statistical programs designed to analyze commercial card portfolios
  • Working on cross functional teams to ensure programming / reporting needs are met
  • Productionalizing weekly, monthly and quarterly reports as well as developing ad hoc reporting as necessary

Experience and Education

The successful candidate must meet the following criteria:

  • BA strongly preferred
  • 3+ years of SAS programming experience experience
  • Intermediate / Expert knowledge of data steps, SQL and macro programming
  • Proven track record of solid documentation / data flow skills
  • Expert knowledge of Excel

About the role

We are looking for a number of talented Statisticians to strengthen our global Discovery Enabling Capabilities and Sciences (DECS) Statistics Department , which provides innovative technologies and direct project support to our drug discovery and development activities. Based at one of our key sites across the world, you will focus on integrating statistics fully into the workflow of the Discovery function. It’s a newly created role that will see you ensuring that project teams have the right level of statistical input, and identifying new opportunities for adding value and implementing best practice.

About you

Qualified to at least MSc and preferably PhD level in a subject with a significant statistical component, you’ll have proven technical skills in a similar role. Although experience of the pharmaceutical industry would be a plus, it’s more important that you can show the ability to provide statistical input that delivers real business impact. For roles in Södertälje and Wilmington, experience of regulatory toxicology would be an advantage. Expert knowledge of a package like SAS, R or S-Plus is essential – and so too are the communication, presentation and consultancy skills to work effectively with scientists and managers at all levels of the business.

Boronia Capital Pty Ltd (formerly Grinham Managed Funds Pty Ltd) is one of the Southern Hemisphere's largest Hedge Fund Managers. Boronia is committed to the development of statistically robust quantitative investment strategies through a disciplined scientific research process.

We are continuing to grow our research group and so are looking for individuals to fill a new permanent research position. The primary task will be to undertake research into the detection, modeling and exploitation of robust statistically significant patterns within financial time series data. The aim of this research is to develop new automated trading and execution strategies that complement those already in use.

The ideal applicant will have substantial research experience in machine learning, data mining or computational statistics, and a Ph.D. in one of engineering, physics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, finance or a related field. All levels of experience will be considered. Competency in software development is essential and a thorough knowledge of one or more of C, C++, Matlab/Octave or related languages will be required. Past experience with complex systems, large datasets, statistical and numerical analysis, or time series modeling will be highly regarded. Prior knowledge of or experience in finance is not a pre-requisite, though a strong interest in finance is essential. The working environment is informal, relaxed and has an academic feel. Hence researchers within the group have the possibility of publishing results from selected areas of their work, are encouraged to engage in collaborations with groups from outside the company, and are supported in conference attendance. The research group is divided into small teams (3-5), each with close IT support, so successful applicants should be willing to work harmoniously with other researchers and with the I.T. professionals that support the research.

This is an exciting, intellectually challenging and rewarding role for someone with enthusiasm, imagination and a desire to learn more about the dynamics of financial markets. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Bonuses are linked to seniority and performance.
