Risk Analyst, Lending (Vienna, VA

Reports to: Manager, Credit Processing-Lending

Position Description

To analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of financial services programs and business products and model and forecast financial aspects of the portfolios, with particular emphasis on portfolio pricing strategies related to credit risk and financial returns. To analyze and develop new and existing automated systems. To research and analyze work processes, production statistics, and market data. To coordinate operational actions that cross division lines

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Your success with attaining and performing the required skills and abilities will be enhanced if they consist the following:

  • Technical experience with emphasis on and demonstrated skill in the creation and maintenance of automated processing systems
  • Skill in interpreting regulations, specification, instruction, procedures, and policies
  • Highly effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills that demonstrate the ability to present findings and conclusions clearly and concisely
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management and staff as well as external entities such as auditors and vendors
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks, exercise independent judgment and initiative
  • Working knowledge/experience with spreadsheet, graphics, database, and word processing application: i.e. Access
  • Experience in Credit Policy and Credit Risk management across the life cycle of the lending process
  • Proficiency in the application of strong research, quantitative analysis, and problem solving skills
  • Proficiency in statistical methods, mathematical techniques, and related analytical tools including forecasting and cost-benefit analysis
  • Extensive experience managing projects which involve organization, holding strategy and status meetings, planning and directing the work of participants

Additional Expertise

You are strongly encouraged to submit your credentials should you also possess:

  • College degree in Business Administration, Management, Statistics, or related field
  • Experience with credit union business to include an understanding of member service

Job Title: Manager, Pricing and Portfolio Analysis

Position mandate:

The Manager, Pricing and Portfolio Analysis is responsible for analysing the Moneris portfolio of merchants and establishing pricing policies that maximise revenue, and minimise spread erosion and attrition.

Some of the key activities are (but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for understanding and analyzing the existing Moneris merchant portfolio to support the development of our market strategy, including segment level analysis of; contribution, penetration, growth, profitability, and pricing sensitivity
  • Responsible for devising and managing pricing policies for the small business portfolio that balances new business acquisition with maintenance of existing margins
  • Responsible for identifying and capitalising on opportunities for strategic price increases
  • Responsible for acting as consultant to IB Sales to develop for the retention and acquisition of key accounts
  • Responsible for developing sales and revenue forecasts and provide informed reporting on key performance measures, indicating trends and making recommendations for improvement
  • Responsible for analysing market share and market opportunity versus the existing Moneris merchant portfolio
  • Development and management of the Pricing and Portfolio Analysis annual business plans in support of the Marketing annual, mid and long term business plans
  • Manage direct reports by establishing formalized goals, monitoring objectives and evaluating performance on a quarterly basis and while ensuring opportunities for growth and learning
  • Responsible for establishing and managing business relationships with card associations for the purpose of enriching our sources of data and establishing our market share

Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in Commerce or Marketing; MBA preferred
  • 5 years experience in Marketing, with preferred specific experience in pricing analysis, portfolio analysis and market research
  • Experience within payments industry preferred.
  • Experience in market research is beneficial

Must have skills/attributes:
  • Excellent communication skills and networking abilities with internal and external contacts
  • Possess high level of initiative and be able to put forward opinions on improving market opportunities and driving margin
  • Strong business acumen with analytical ability to assess the business and drive the organization forward.
  • Ability to apply strategic thinking to business issues and drive results.

The Assistant Product Manager/Market Director works across the Travelers Companies to develop the most effective pricing plans for the territory they cover. The “MD” is also very technically oriented and has a strong foundation in math and statistics. As the “owner” of initiatives, s/he also has strong leadership skills, including influencing skills, management experience and presentation abilities. What we are looking for:

This Director-level position will develop and implement Pricing, Filing, and Product strategies. This position will be responsible for the following:

  • Leadership of the development and communication of national strategy and business plan.
  • Superior technical consultation on products and underwriting issues.
  • Effective management of resources to respond to customer needs.
  • Project management for national and state product development.
  • Analysis of competitor and industry data, production costs, loss data, competitive positions, underwriting/marketing programs, claim data.
  • Response to and coordination of state insurance and department inquiries.
  • Collaboration with regional marketing team, travel the territory and build expertise in assigned states.
  • Development of pro forma cost benefit analysis.
  • Recommend improvements to pricing policies, procedures and workflow.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to develop solid knowledge of Personal Insurance products and systems.
  • Global understanding of competitive analysis tools, how to extract and analyze data and forecast financials.
  • Draws conclusions from Travelers and industry management information (M.I.) and makes strategic changes.
  • Improves workflow, M.I. communication and handoffs with claim, business centers, call centers, and I.T.
  • Self-directed with the potential to coach and mentor others.
  • Solid knowledge of Excel, Access, and Word.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
