Lead Credit Risk Analyst, Credit Card originations - HSBC (Chicago, IL)

Lead Credit Risk Analyst - Credit Card originations: be on the cutting edge of the industry!

Location: Chicago, IL, Portland OR, or Salinas, CA.

A lead analyst is a key member on Credit Risk Policy team leading analytical initiatives related to credit underwriting and business innovations. The position is responsible for driving the business analysis and business cases in support of the growth and profitability of a top national retailer private label and credit card portfolio with $5 billion in total receivables.

The individual will accomplish the following job functions:

  • Develop strategies for private label or credit card decisioning and line assignment strategies for a portfolio with more than 2 million accounts booked per year. Aid in the development of challenger underwriting decision logic, multiple account decision logic, and underwriting strategies for new populations.
  • Work with Finance team to evaluate the risk/return profile of the targeted populations and identify key performance drivers to meet the corporate established return requirements. Assist Finance team by providing loss forecast assumptions leveraging the historical performance and planned strategy changes for each targeted segment.
  • Drive the development of business solutions, including the use of new scores, data, models and technologies that will increase the profitability of new originated accounts.
  • Design and write mainframe and PC technical programs for statistical analysis of portfolio performance and monitoring. Leverage and optimize existing tracking systems to provide informative reporting to senior management and recommend new initiatives and strategy changes.
  • Communicate and document processes and analysis results. Prepare and deliver presentations to senior management and to various business groups, including Finance, Marketing and Compliance.

The candidates should have 2+ years of financial services industry experience. Candidates with exceptional track record from other industry in an analytical or consulting role will also be considered. The individual will need to show strong technical skills with proficiency in MS Excel, SAS or other comparable statistical/database programs or programming languages. He should also have strong presentation and communication skills. Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, operations/engineering or equivalent is required. Masters in similar quantitative discipline preferred.

Investment Data Analyst (Baltimore, MD)

Primary Purpose of the Position

Working independently and on teams and committees, this position is responsible for providing front office investment support for Portfolio Managers, Analysts, and Traders. In addition, the incumbent must maintain good working relationships with Front Office Investment clients and TRPA staff. Works closely with quantitative analysts, portfolio managers, investment analysts, and traders to investigate, design, automate or enhance investment processes and applications and to ensure that Fixed Income systems, databases, internal workflows and vendors evolve to appropriately keep pace with internal and external reporting needs for core and analytic data at security, portfolio, product and sector levels.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Investigates new products/vendors to automate and streamline workflow and data processes for investment associates -Portfolio Managers, Analysts, and Traders.
  • Works closely with quantitative analyst, portfolio managers, investment analyst, and traders to develop analytical systems/reports to be used by the investment associates for investment management/decision support. Takes the lead on coordinating and executing required systems testing for enhancements and upgrades; partners with TRPIT and HiNet developers to ensure complete, efficient connectivity between all relevant systems.
  • Designs, plans, and develops solutions that automate and streamline processes for Investment Associates.
  • Seeks creative solutions to business problems. Investigates/researches integration of new products into/with full array of analytical systems (Salomon Yield Book, Vision, Lehman Point, Perform, Wilshire Axiom, etc.) that assist the Investment process; provides system administration support for ancillary and primary analytical tools (SYB, Point, Perform, etc.)
  • Manages large data sets and resolves research data issues. Ensures data integrity, maintains data quality, resolves data discrepancies and identifies "gold standard" sources of information. Networks with appropriate upstream and downstream customers, vendors, service teams and developers to ensure data errors are resolved and processes are revised in order to mitigate risk of repeat issues; may also represent Investment Staff by serving on committees and project teams (e.g., MIDR Data Policy Committee) for evolving data needs and reporting along with impacts of regulatory changes.

Qualifications
  • College degree and 4 yrs related work experience required
  • Financial Industry experience
  • Detail oriented
  • Technical background / Strong design skills
  • Ability to handle multiple task
  • Substantial technical or statistical programming skills, with demonstrable ability to employ those skills to solve complex modeling challenges in a limited time. Experience with Matlab and/or Splus is an advantage, as is knowledge of database management systems.
  • Ability to master complex tasks with minimal supervision

Experience with:
  • Java, C++, Object Oriented Programming/Design
  • Integrating Products
  • Perl
  • CGI programming
  • HTML
  • Unix Skills a must
  • Self starter requiring minimum supervision

Job Title: Manager, Pricing and Portfolio Analysis

Position mandate:

The Manager, Pricing and Portfolio Analysis is responsible for analysing the Moneris portfolio of merchants and establishing pricing policies that maximise revenue, and minimise spread erosion and attrition.

Some of the key activities are (but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for understanding and analyzing the existing Moneris merchant portfolio to support the development of our market strategy, including segment level analysis of; contribution, penetration, growth, profitability, and pricing sensitivity
  • Responsible for devising and managing pricing policies for the small business portfolio that balances new business acquisition with maintenance of existing margins
  • Responsible for identifying and capitalising on opportunities for strategic price increases
  • Responsible for acting as consultant to IB Sales to develop for the retention and acquisition of key accounts
  • Responsible for developing sales and revenue forecasts and provide informed reporting on key performance measures, indicating trends and making recommendations for improvement
  • Responsible for analysing market share and market opportunity versus the existing Moneris merchant portfolio
  • Development and management of the Pricing and Portfolio Analysis annual business plans in support of the Marketing annual, mid and long term business plans
  • Manage direct reports by establishing formalized goals, monitoring objectives and evaluating performance on a quarterly basis and while ensuring opportunities for growth and learning
  • Responsible for establishing and managing business relationships with card associations for the purpose of enriching our sources of data and establishing our market share

Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in Commerce or Marketing; MBA preferred
  • 5 years experience in Marketing, with preferred specific experience in pricing analysis, portfolio analysis and market research
  • Experience within payments industry preferred.
  • Experience in market research is beneficial

Must have skills/attributes:
  • Excellent communication skills and networking abilities with internal and external contacts
  • Possess high level of initiative and be able to put forward opinions on improving market opportunities and driving margin
  • Strong business acumen with analytical ability to assess the business and drive the organization forward.
