DESCRIPTION:

We're going to bet tens of millions of dollars on your code. In our business models, we bet our own money by purchasing ad space on web pages and buying keywords on search engines, and then presenting appropriate content or ads to that user so that some users go on to become customers of our clients. Your statistical techniques will help us choose which traffic to buy and decide in realtime which content and ads to show to which user, hundreds of millions of times per day.

Your code, your teams code, and your machine learning techniques will have a huge impact on our business, and we'll give you stock options, to make sure you care.

We build our own in-house software to support our proprietary high volume, high uptime internet marketing applications. Our systems need to make real time optimization decisions with partial data, support higher level decisions with reporting, track events with integrity, flexibly present content using a variety of technologies, and run reliably, even during upgrades.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

You will be part of the Research and Optimization team, recruiting and leading the software engineers on that team in a hands on player/coach capacity. You will work with researchers to develop, implement, and improve existing and novel learning algorithms for optimizing internet advertising and website conversions. You will help to evaluate, parameterize, and iterate models for success. Manage development of production quality model implementations.

You will be responsible for the entire software engineering cycle, including: creating the technical designs, component level engineering, and end-to-end testing. You will also work with our technical operations team to deploy your software into our production infrastructure.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Hands on coding expertise in Java.
  • Proven experience using machine learning and statistical techniques to solve business problems.
  • At least 7 years of hands on experience developing software systems, more is better.
  • Must have experience leading and coaching a team.
  • Mathematical background
  • Strong knowledge of RDBMS and SQL
  • Expertise working in a unix environment
EDUCATION:

Masters Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Robotics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, IR (information retrieval), AI (artificial intelligence), or similar related field.

Senior Business Intelligence Data Mining Analyst - Ingram Micro (Santa Ana, CA)

SUMMARY

The Senior Business Intelligence Data Mining Analyst is responsible for developing data mining/business intelligence analytics to generate knowledge and data insight about Ingram Micro’s customers, vendors, products and operations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Data Mining (statistical modeling)

  • Creation and implementation of statistical predictive models including such algorithms as neural networks, decision tress, regression, clustering, association etc
  • Build and implement custom build algorithms
  • Research and stay current with the latest data mining trends/algorithms
  • Documentation of models and procedures
  • Generation of knowledge and insight about Ingram Micro’s customers, vendors, products and operations
  • Creation of Power Point reports for delivery to Ingram's Vendor partners
  • Assist in the creation of Vendor marketing programs for analytical studies
Database Maintenance and Development
  • Be sufficient in various database packages (IBM DB2, MS SQL, Oracle) and database programming languages (SQL etc)
  • Proficient in the technical understanding of database administration
  • Manipulate and process large amounts of data from thousands of sources and multiple servers
  • Ability to troubleshoot and work with Ingram/ACS DBAs to resolve issues
Assist in the deployment of knowledge out to constituents.
  • Get data insight delivered to those who require it, when and where they need to, in a way that they can use the information to make decisions or drive business.
Interface with internal departments to gather needs and requirements for data analysis with supervision of Manager and senior team members.
  • Data synergy among Ingram's various different departments
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: BS or MS/PHD degree with emphasis on quantitative analysis (i.e. statistics, econometrics, mathematical modeling, data mining, computer sciences) required OR 4 years’ related external experience OR 2 years’ related Ingram Micro experience .

Experience: Minimum of 3-4 years experience in analysis of large data sets, focused on mathematical modeling, statistical modeling or data mining. Expertise in major data mining platforms and applications (i.e. IBM Intelligent Miner, SAS Enterprise Miner); experience using major statistical analysis packages (i.e. SPSS, SAS Stats); strong working knowledge of relational databases and database management (i.e. DB2, MS SQL Server); advanced skills in MS Excel, MS Access, SQL. Basic knowledge of commonly used marketing principles and techniques.

Minimum kinds of knowledge, skills and abilities required to do this job:

  • Knowledge of major data mining platforms and applications (i.e. IBM Intelligent Miner, SAS Enterprise Miner, Clementine); experience using major statistical analysis packages (i.e. SPSS, SAS Stats); strong working knowledge of relational databases and database management (i.e. DB2, MS SQL Server); advanced skills in MS Excel, MS Access, SQL
  • Skill in: Working with data in a highly analytic environment; working with data in a cross platform environment; excellent computer application skills and an expert in MS Excel, Access, and SQL; movement and manipulation of data in a server environment.
  • Ability to: Work in a cross functional environment, experiment in new areas of knowledge management, communicate effectively, drive analysis projects to completion under deadlines, and understand the appropriate use of data.

  • Guide and mentor other modelers in best practices regarding methodology (prototype formulation and testing, data mining and analysis), as well as implementation (proper documentation, source control, and coding practices).
  • Assess the methodological and functional pros and cons of implementing third-party products versus building an in-house system when facing a business problem.
Requirements
  • 8-10+ professional experience in a modeling or analyst role, someone with high energy and creativity and an openness to new ideas/approaches.
  • Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in quantitative discipline such as statistics, economics, applied mathematics, quantitative methods, operations research, research methodology, etc. Comprehensive understanding of quantitative methods and extreme attention to detail.
  • Previous experience in the e-commerce and/or travel/hospitality domain preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in SAS and demonstrated ability to produce both ad hoc analyses and production-grade analytic jobs that execute autonomously.
  • Functional proficiency in SQL.
  • Experience in several of the following areas: predictive modeling (including ARIMA and regression techniques), neural nets and self-learning models (including classification of skewed data), linear and non-linear optimization, etc.
