Manager, Research and Development - BlueCross BlueShield Association (Chicago, IL)

The Manager of Research and Development applies experience in using quantitative research methodologies to produce high quality results. Provides project management and vendor oversight of sophisticated quantitative research modeling using administrative data (including claims and provider-submitted information) to inform program development and evaluate providers. Builds and maintains effective business relationships with BCBSA and BCBS Plan clients in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment. This individual will be looked to as a subject matter expert on health services research, analyzing health services research data using appropriate scientific standards.

Required Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years experience working on health services research projects
  • Broad experience in the healthcare industry
  • A masters degree in the social sciences or statistics, or related field
  • Strong project management skills, including experience managing research projects conducted by research vendors and academics, and internally leveraging administrative data and large data sources
  • Strong training and experience developing quasi-experimental designs including nonequivalent control group and time series designs
  • Strong training and experience using multivariate methods including regression and logistic regression
  • Proficiency in SAS programming required; preferably SAS Enterprise
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Preferred Basic Qualifications:
  • PhD in social sciences, statistics, or related field
  • Effective communication skills (written and oral) in working with all levels of staff and management
  • Ability to lead client presentations and make presentations to internal staff members
  • Ability to organize and synthesize quantitative data to identify key findings

As a Predictive Modeling/ Data Mining Analyst you will perform data analysis, develop algorithms and predictive models, and present technical information to a broad audience. JOB TITLE: Professional Services Food Program Manager / Industrial Statistician

JOB LOCATION: Beverly, MA USA

BASIC PURPOSE: This position is responsible for managing activities related to data analysis and reporting for European-based programs that help companies involved in the manufacture or distribution of temperature sensitive food products to monitor and continuously improve their temperature controlled supply chains. This involves data analysis, information visualization, project management and report writing. This position will work closely with European based Program Managers. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Manage databases, analyze data and create reports. Provide expertise and training in industrial statistics to other team members

  • Facilitate the flow of information between our Europe-based and US-based Professional Services team members
  • Act as advocate and first point of contact for European Professional Services team members in the corporate office
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
  • MS in Industrial Statistics or related field preferred
  • Expertise and industry experience with process improvement methodologies, SPC, Six-Sigma, DOE, exploratory data analysis, data mining and information visualization
  • Minimum 5 years work experience in industry involving process improvement, quality management or data analysis
  • Must have practical, hands on approach, proven ability to work well with non-statisticians and proven ability to use statistics to improve real life processes.
  • Experience in cold chain management, refrigeration or food distribution is desired, but not required
  • Must be service oriented

Research Data Warehouse Specialist (Duarte, CA)

Position Summary

Responsible for the planning, oversight, and coordination of information management activities related to sourcing and provisioning of research related data to and from the City of Hope enterprise data warehouse. Information management activities include establishment and enforcement of policies, processes, and procedures related to data integrity, data integration and retention, and secured data access. Assist with the selection of source data considered for inclusion in the warehouse, specification of data integrity criteria for selected data, prioritizing and ranking of source data relative to alternative sources, and declaration of data ownership and data access rights and privileges with regard to selected source data. Assist with data quality assurance and linkage validation of the data records within the warehouse, and oversee documentation of the domain-level business metadata.

Position Accountabilities

Maintain metadata such as data element definitions, integrity rules, and ETL requirements regarding research related data included or planned for inclusion in the data warehouse. Participate in decision making related to selection and prioritizing of potential data sources for data of interest to research. Assist in the declaration and definition of derivation algorithms and calculations for measures and indicators to be included in the data warehouse of importance to research activities. Participate in decision making related to the declaration of data access policies and technologies used to enforce them. Assist in the definition and design of research related analytical data stores (data marts) populated using data extracted from the data warehouse. Participate in regular audits of the data warehouse to verify data quality and rectification of identified data integrity issues. Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations. Keep abreast of latest trends in the field of clinical and research data warehousing and analytics. Follow established policies and procedures regarding job performance, attendance, safety, infection control, conflict of interest, and confidentiality.
