Risk Metrics Analytics Specialist Consultant - M Squared (San Jose, CA)

M Squared Consulting, Inc. – Project Opportunity – Risk Metrics Analytics Specialist Consultant Responsibilities

A seasoned hands-on Risk Metrics and Analytics Specialist consultant is required to support the Trust and Safety group at a leading Internet commerce company in Silicon Valley. Reporting to the Director of Risk Metrics and Analytics, the consultant will be responsible for helping our client in the following areas:

Take on a series of projects devoted to protecting the user and keeping transactions secure

  • There are several different openings for consultants with this business unit so the exact projects will depend on the specific skills of the consultant
  • Develop statistical models that predict bad users of the system
  • Perform advanced data analysis which will lead to creating better policies
  • Monitor metrics and create reports to support the rest of the company management in decision making on some businesses completely overhaul the metrics process
  • Create reports which communicate critical trends and present them to different groups within the different business units.

  • Proposals on new metrics processes
  • Additional support of activities of Analytics and Metrics department
Industry Experience

The industry is less important than the functional experience. There still is a strong benefit of having worked in banking, financial services, or insurance.

Functional Experience

  • Very strong working knowledge of SAS language. At least 3-4 (more is better!) years of hands-on experience.
  • Proven ability to build statistical models using SAS (formerly Statistical Analysis System) and manage junior SAS modelers/statisticians.
  • 3-5 years working experience in a relevant field like: Data-Mining, Quantitative Research, or Risk Management Department within a financial institution.
  • Strong experience understanding databases and SQL, particularly how they work and how to get data out.
  • Proven business reporting experience. Ability to leverage existing tools. There is a desire to create reporting solutions where information is organized in different "layers" with increasing granularity. Excel is OK but a browser-based solution is particularly interesting.
  • At least masters degree in very quantitative field (in order of preference: Statistics, operations Research, Math, Economics). PhD is a plus.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of business experience.

Terms

This is a 4-6 month engagement which will begin as soon as an appropriate resource is identified. The consultant will be onsite 40 hours weekly though it may be possible to work remotely occasionally.
