Sr. MySQL DBA (Mountain View, CA)

Full Time Position

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a strong MySQL DBA/Linux Systems Administrator to help contribute to our technology efforts. We are seeking a Database Admistrator who is ready to make an immediate impact with a fast growing, dynamic organization. The ideal candidate will have past experience maintaining a large group of database servers and have experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Perl. The DBA will be an advocate for system improvement and reliability, focusing on scalability, clustering, load-balancing, and automation. This person must have a passion for quality work.

The Database Administrator will be responsible for the architecting, tuning, optimizing, and analyzing database implementations. Must be able to analyze and optimize database access from web applications that display complex data sets, provide custom reports, integrate with other existing systems, and utilize best practice techniques for high volume sites. The programmer must have strong inter-personal skills and be able to find the ideal way to implement requirements in a clean, elegant way.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design, document, and monitor the MySQL Database servers.
• Develop standards and procedures for maintenance and modification of database platforms.
• Provide systems architecture guidance in creating high availability systems.
• Provide direction in capacity planning, performance improvement, and storage management in partnership with Development teams.
• Plan and support the implementation of major architectural changes.
• Develop back-up and recovery procedures, including testing back-ups and data integrity.
• Proactive and reactive performance analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of issues.
• Assist Business functions on delivery of daily business metrics data.
• Assist the company in developing a data driven business culture.
• Assist with complex query development/tuning.
• Assist with data-mining and data warehousing activities.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's Degree in related field or comparable experience
• 2-4 years of Database Administration with MySQL on a Linux platform, 4+ years preferred
• Hands-on experience supporting large MySQL environments
• 5+ years of working in a UNIX environment
• Proven experience with database replication techniques, complexities, automation, monitoring, and high-availability strategies--use of 3rd party solutions in these techniques is encouraged
• Past experience with at least one scripting language (Bourne shell, Perl, PHP)
• Previous experience working with SA's in the areas of storage, backups, and database operations processes preferred
• Excels in a collaborative environment and is willing to own everything database
