Statistical Software Engineer
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- This position requires the ability to read, interpret, and perform software development activities including research, programming (C/C++ or FORTRAN or Java or C# .NET on UNIX and/or Windows environments), consulting, and documentation.
BUSINESS COMPETENCIES
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary.
- Must be able to work with internal and external personnel as required.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, develop, debug, and test statistical functions used in Visual Numerics’ software products.
- Contribute to product goals documentation regarding planning and scheduling responsible activities for product releases.
- Review current product statistical capabilities and make recommendations to enhance product offerings.
- Maintain and test existing products.
- Write and review documentation as required.
- Occasionally perform in the consulting or technical product support role.
- Research and stay abreast of statistical developments in specific industry environments (i.e. financial, pharmaceutical, etc.).
EDUCATION & TRAINING
A graduate level degree (MS or Ph.D.) in Statistics is required.
WORK EXPERIENCE
To perform the essential responsibilities of this position previous work experience developing software applications utilizing statistical algorithms is required. In addition, algorithm experience with data mining, time-series analysis, forecasting, and non-parametric statistics is desired. Experience in the financial, pharmaceutical, data mining, telecom, and/or medical technology industry is strongly preferred.
