Title: Senior Pricing Analyst a.k.a., “(Master of Millions of Prices)”

Be responsible for the pricing of millions of new & used books on many different sales channels. Establish a professional pricing system and department based on industry and academic best practice.
THE ESSENTIALS (95%)
Key areas of responsibility and % of time spent performing duties in each area. Also list specific job duties/tasks in each area. These are considered “essential functions” which are critical to the unique purpose of this position and can primarily be performed only by a person trained/experienced to perform them.
A. Set Pricing Strategy (60%)
- Define the algorithms, rules, and statistics behind Better World Books’ pricing strategy
- Devise and carry out experiments on the marketplace to both fine tune and to find radical new alternatives.
- Conduct analyses with sound statistical and economics foundations.
- Collaborate with other analysts in the company to tie pricing into BWB’s supply chain and overall company analysis and strategy.
- Define software requirements, manage implementation of new features, and lead debugging efforts.
B. Manage & Mentor Pricing Team (35%)
- Manage a team including both experienced pricers and entry-level pricing associates.
- Define workflows and daily tasks necessary to support the pricing effort, and help to optimize existing tasks.
- Ensure daily work is keeping up with Operations and tasks are being completed in a timely manner.
- Mentor the team on the Pricing profession to nurture future analysts. Educate the team on both academic topics and real-world experience related to pricing.

- All other duties and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFIERS
A. Whadda Ya Know?
- Experience in Pricing/Revenue Management is required.
- Specific experience in a related industry (commodity goods, e-commerce retail, or books) is strongly preferred.
- Basic knowledge of databases is required, higher-level database skills are a plus
- Some basic programming experience is required and an aptitude & willingness to learn SQL and MS SQL Reporting Services is required.
- General business acumen is critical, basic knowledge of accounting and finance is also desired.
- Experience with any analytical/statistical tools, pricing tools, optimization/modeling is a plus.
B. Schooling & Such . . .
- MBA, or Master’s in Economics/Econometrics/Mathematics/Statistics, or equivalent experience required.
- Coursework in statistics/quantitative analysis and economics also required.

- Requirements such as math, writing, and intellectual/ thinking/conceptual abilities.

- Very strong analytical and problem-solving skills are a must.
- Ability to communicate effectively with executive management and also effectively manage entry level employees.
Brawn
- Any physical lifting, stooping, bending, walking or sitting requirements.
- Sitting at a computer for long periods is required.
- Engaging in some physical activities of the business to understand systems and processes is also required (i.e. picking orders, shelving books, etc.)
Surroundings
- Note where work is performed: inside in office, laboratory, outside. Noise levels, dust, heat, cold, temperature changes, odors, presence of chemicals.
- Work will be performed in a normal office setting.
- Office is on the fourth floor and is not handicap accessible.
