Software Project Engineer, Data Mining (Shelton, Connecticut)

Salary: $80,000 - $110,000

Our client is looking for top talent to work in their research division working on future technologies. This position will be solving diverse and challenging research problems relevant to their business domain. The team focuses on using data mining and text mining to solve complex problems utilizing statistics, database technologies, unsupervised and supervised learning techniques.

The successful candidate should have at least 2 - 3 years of experience or equivalent research experience at the graduate level in the data mining field, including contributions to applications within the database marketing arena such as multi-channel, event-based, or lifetime value analyses using large datasets. The candidate should have experience utilizing and creating databases and must be able to carry out a project independently. Candidate will have skills in data collection and an analytic capacity to convert business problems into a framework of data mining. Candidate will interact with internal clients, manage relationships, and provide regular reporting. The candidate will have a strong technical background in databases, statistics, and machine learning.

Qualifications

  • Strong DATA MINING experience is required with application to business problems
  • MS in Mathematics or Computer Science with a specialization in data mining
  • The candidate should be proficient in SQL and have experience with commercial databases such as Microsoft SQLServer or Oracle
  • Working knowledge of data mining algorithms, statistics, machine learning and application of said tools in projects
  • Knowledge of and experience with Text Mining a strong plus
  • Proficiency using statistical tools such as SAS or SPSS or other data mining tools
  • Strong experience in developing and implementing data mining models using logistic regression, neural networks, decision trees and support vector machines
  • Software development skills, object-oriented development - Java, C#, or C++
  • Oracle DBA experience a plus
  • Candidate must possess strong communication skills in order to convey complex analytical results to business sponsors of programs
