Portfolio Performance Pricing (Chicago, IL)

OPPORTUNITY:

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join an industry leader/ innovator and be part of the management team in Risk Management. This is a highly visible and strategically critical role; the individual that assumes this position will have a lasting contribution to the success of the enterprise.

LOCATION: Chicago, IL

POSITION:

Reporting to the Vice President of Customer Credit Policy, this individual will be responsible for providing thought leadership and development of portfolio risk management polices and strategies in four distitinct areas, managing a team for each and being wholly responsible for the business results of each area. This is a highly visible executive role responsible for business critical risk management and growth functions.

The four principal and distinct areas are:

  • Pricing for portfolio, structures programs and initiatives.
  • Personal Loan strategy, analysis and policies
  • New Initiatives business
  • Portfolio analytics

This position is one of the most visible and impactful roles within the business. Specifically, these responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
  • Managing four teams of 12+ analytical and policy staff with responsibility for recruiting, training, coaching and motivating new talent with exceptional quantitative/ analytical skill sets and competencies;
  • Understanding complex business, marketplace and systems issues and requirements and translating them into measurable and actionable strategies for the group;?
  • Identifying gaps and providing solutions to improve predictive models, risk scorecards, loss forecasting, experimental design and testing, and value based decision optimization;?
  • Enhancing portfolio credit risk strategic and modeling capabilities by adopting the industry best practices and leading edge technologies;?
  • Directly lead a team with responsibility for conception and research of a range of new initiatives in support of the full breadth of portfolio credit risk management activities;
  • Manage the development and launch of a Personal Loan offering including establishment of credit policies, solicitation targeting, risk based pricing structure together with oversight of infrastructure and supporting models;
  • Responsible for development of an account pricing strategy establishing and leading an array of initiatives working closely with the Marketing Pricing team and Finance;?
  • Develop an effective portfolio analytics capability thereby continuously improving the understanding of business drivers and the impact of internal and external factors upon current and future performance;?
  • Fostering effective communication of ideas/solutions and strategy recommendations across functional areas such as Decision Science, Marketing and Collections;
  • Team management responsibilities include the full range of duties such as performance evaluation, promotion/ transfer decisions, salary recommendations, interviewing/ selecting/ terminating employees, planning/ directing their work, planning/ controlling the budget as well as handling other team management-related issues and challenges.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE:

The ideal candidate will be an experienced and exceptionally talented executive with in-depth knowledge and understanding of statistics and econometrics. He/She must be experienced in developing credit strategies using econometric models and decision logic within a complex decision framework in the financial industry. This executive will need to be capable of adding value across multiple product business models, across multiple business functions, and from a strategic to a tactical implementation level. Demonstrated record of thought leadership, driving changes and improvements, providing innovative solutions, thinking “outside the box” and challenging the status quo will be essential traits which the person will be required to leverage continually.The successful candidate will possess most, if not all, of the following qualifications:

Technical Skills (Required)

  • A minimum of 7+ years of experience (10+ preferred) in developing, testing and implementing complex and sophisticated credit risk management and policy models, and decision logic in the credit card or related industries;
  • A very strong set of quantitative/ analytical/ modeling skills demonstrated through advanced academic training and extensive practical experience with progressive increases in the level and scope of functional responsibilities;
  • A background in sophisticated quantitative environments within world-class organizations such as top credit card issuing, retail banking or related industries;
  • Experience with a wide range of software applications and operating systems, in-depth knowledge of analytical modeling tools (SAS, CART, MARS, Marketswitch, etc.).

  • Ability to approach new business processes and opportunities, identify risks and build an analytical framework;
  • Pro-active and creative approach to problem solving;
  • Ability to articulate strong and well-founded points of view and effectively communicate them to all levels of the organization – senior management, peers and subordinates;
  • Flexibility and capacity to work effectively across functional silos and departmental lines;
  • Experience in project management and team leadership.

Education
  • M.S. in statistics, economics/econometrics, agricultural economics, operations research or a related quantitative field is required. Ph.D. in above fields is preferred.
