Software Engineer - Houston Advanced Research Center (Houston, TX)

Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC) is looking for an information technology professional. HARC, a private, not-for-profit applied scientific research facility dedicated to sustainable development, is located in The Woodlands, Texas, 30 miles north of Houston. Education: Bachelor degree, Computer Science or related field. Advanced degree preferred.

Experience: Masters, minimum of 5 years experience; Bachelors, minimum of 8 years experience.

Skills: Proven experience in the following:

REQUIRED: Programming (ASP.NET, ASP, C, C# 2.0 or above, T-SQL; VB.NET, VBA, Ajax, XML/ XSL, Google API, Quickbase API ); Databases (MS SQL Server 2005, MS Access); data mining; data warehousing; SQL Server Analysis Server; Operating System (Win Server 2003, Win XP); ability to provide desktop support for Windows XP and Vista.

DESIRED: Business Intelligence (MS Analysis Services, OLAP-BI); Tools (MS Project, SPSS, S-Plus, Photoshop, Flash); Sungard-Bitech’s Integrated Financial Administrative (IFAS) System with CDD, Workflow, and Common Code experience strongly preferred.

Additional qualifications/information: Must be eligible to work in the United States; strong oral and written communication skills in English required; ability to write design specifications and user documentation; detail oriented.

Duties include, but are not limited to: Contributing to projects through database programming and geospatial analysis using web interfacing; Technical leadership in database software initiatives including detailed assessment, integration and conversion of data; integration of distributed databases; integration of geospatial technologies; development of data mining tools; interfaces to and/or development of applications, models and tools; and software documentation; Work with other IT members to provide high-quality support to HARC users; Work with all PIs to contribute to IT related proposals; Investigate new technologies, new solutions to existing challenges; Propose cost savings strategies using new IT systems and process; Manage all aspect of projects (planning, execution, monitoring) according to the PMI standard.
