Join Netflix and help make sure that every customer finds the perfect movies to watch. Our job is to match 7.5 Million customers with an inventory of 90,000 DVDs and over 7000 instantly watchable titles delivered over the Internet. The work you do as part of a small cross-functional team will have a dramatic impact on the future of Netflix and the entertainment distribution industry.
As a key researcher for our web application development team, you will be working on data mining and algorithm development to build the world’s best movie finding software with some of the brightest people in the E-commerce arena. Our goal is to know our customers’ movie tastes well enough to create the perfect store, always presenting amazing titles just for them.
We are looking for a very experienced engineer who can take the lead, researching, modeling, presenting, designing and building algorithms that run in a service oriented architecture to support millions of customers. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, intellectually curious individual. A Doctorate or experience working in a research environment, work with personalization algorithms, machine learning, adaptive systems, and statistical analysis would be a bonus.
This is a hands-on individual contributor role, for example you may need to prototype or model a new concept, present it to senior management, architect a Hadoop cluster, write the SQL and Java code to load and analyze interesting data and, then work with other team members to incorporate the results into the web site.
Responsibilities:
- Research new data sources and integrate into Netflix back end services
- Java based personalization algorithms and services used throughout the site
- SQL query and schema design, data mining
- Full software life-cycle ownership of key strategic business logic and services
- Conceiving, articulating and implementing projects in coordination with technical and non-technical coworkers for product enhancement and improvement
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of development experience including consumer web sites
- Experience with high-traffic, scalable, multi-threaded software design
- Key technologies: Java, Tomcat, SQL, Oracle, a statistics package e.g. SAS or R
- Analytical approach to testing user behavior and solving performance problems
- Doctorate in Mathematics, Computing, Science, Engineering or equivalent.
