Data Manager - Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (Cincinnati, OH)

Data Manager

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To manage data processes and to develop, implement and maintain a data quality assurance program for research studies.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with researchers and research coordinators to ascertain data needs for research studies.
  • Act as a liaison between research team, IT professionals, and analysts to create analysis data sets for research purposes.
  • Design and test data collection tools.
  • Build and maintain data dictionaries for division and study databases.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data quality program for research studies.
  • Ensure global clinical data management best practices and knowledge thereof in a standardized, transparent, and efficient manner. Assume responsibility as a partner for the planning, resourcing, and execution of relevant internal and external data management activities to obtain clean databases within a specified timeframe.
  • Maintain data quality for research studies.
  • Oversee the accuracy of data entry functions.
  • Design and build eCRFs and edit checks, oversee validation process.
  • Coordinate data transfers, data reconciliation.
  • Develop knowledge and professional skills through continuing education, cross training, literature and attendance at departmental meetings.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Ability to organize and define problems, develop strategies, solutions and recommend action plans for research data management. Analytical and statistical ability sufficient to evaluate data, make judgments and recommendations regarding data management and quality. Experience performing basic statistical analysis including frequency distributions, graphical displays and descriptive statistics. Demonstrates analytical skills as well as accuracy and attention to detail. Possesses strong computer and word processing, spreadsheet statistical, and database software application skills (Microsoft Office, Visual Basic, Business Objects, Access, SAS or SPSS). Have a working knowledge of tools to build simple databases and electronic data collection tools. Be able to develop ad hoc queries for simple data retrieval skills.

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Bachelor degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, management information systems, quantitative analysis or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 1 year experience developing and manipulating small to medium databases, using Visual Basic, SAS and/or SPSS and cleaning and managing data for multiple projects.
