Job Description
Liberty Mutual Personal Markets has an immediate need for an application database administrator to develop, implement, and support database technology as it relates to an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). This is an outstanding opportunity to work in a truly enterprise focused role featuring state-of-the-art technology and enterprise-level data warehousing.
An EDW application database administrator will perform a broad range of activities not often included in traditional operational database administration functions. The role of the EDW application database administrator is to ensure reliability, availability, security, performance and quality. The EDW database environment is a Teradata RDBMS which includes data provisioning and data access technologies such as GoldenGate, Informatica, SAS, and other Business Intelligence tools. The position requires significant interaction with DBAs, data modelers, technologists, as well as business analysts, users, and managers at all levels.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Define, Implement, and Enforce proactive database performance and tuning strategies.
• Define, Implement, and Enforce data warehouse database security standards.
• Define, Implement, and Enforce database code management and deployment processes.
• Define, Implement, and Enforce backup and recovery practices.
• Define, Implement, and Monitor proactive database capacity management processes.
• Define, Implement, and Test disaster recovery procedures.
• Identify opportunities to optimize development practices.
• Influence Production Environment Control (PEC) standards as they relate to data warehousing.
• Document all processes surrounding the data warehouse database including a comprehensive architecture document and run book document.
• Work directly with and mentor staff.
Requirements
Qualifications:
• Very Strong understanding of Relational Database Management Systems as they relate to Data Warehouse Strategies.
• Experience with Teradata Data Warehousing methodologies and functionality preferred
• Familiarity with tools and products used in data warehouse development, such as GoldenGate, Informatica, and Teradata.
• Strong verbal/written communications and presentation skills as well as confidence and presence with IT and business executives
• Must work well in a collaborative team environment
• Exposure to Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance products and processing preferred
General Skill sets
• Participates as high level technical expert in design, development, coding, testing and debugging new software or significant enhancements to existing software.
• Develops and enhances highly complex systems and/or software from general requirements and specifications across multiple platforms, applications and projects.
• Identifies and analyzes technical and/or functional Level 2 problems of high complexity; designs and implements effective solutions.
• Works with technical staff to understand problems with software and develops specifications for improvements and enhancements.
• Works with Technologist to strategize on the technologies and components needed to implement the appropriate business solutions.
• Leads development staff to ensure both architectural and development standards are being met. This includes leading design and coding reviews.
• Helps develop and organize technology plan that developers can execute from. Makes recommendations to the Project Managers on the right development tasks and skill set. Validates that application was build based on technology plan.
• Mentors junior developer on application portfolio, coding standards and techniques and development processes.
• May provide on-call support as needed.
• Thorough knowledge of IT concepts, strategies, and methodologies
• Thorough knowledge of diverse technologies and hew technical architectures, principles, and concepts; understands industry wide technical standards
• Thorough knowledge of software engineering design and development tools
• Consults on major, complex design considerations; acts as principal project architecture designer and reviewer for 1 or more project teams and may make architectural decisions.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in technical or business discipline or equivalent experience, technical degree preferred
• Generally 8+ years of professional experience
